Design of a Coated Blue-light Blocking Lens and Studyof Its Optical Characteristics according to the Blue-light Blocking Rate
Park Moon-Chan

Abstract
Purpose: This study was to design a coated blue-light blocking lens and observe its optical properties according to the blue-light blocking rate.

Methods: The optical constants of Ti3O5 and SiO2 thin films were determined using the envelope method following the coating of Ti3O5 and SiO2 thin films, and the transmittances were obtained. Using the Essential Macleod program, the study designed a blue-light blocking lens having a Gaussian distribution curve with a peak wavelength of 450 nm and a line width of 27 nm at a wavelength of 380 to 500 nm. Visible light having a wavelength of 500 nm or more was nearly transmitted, and ultraviolet light having a wavelength of 380 nm or less was blocked.

Results: The designed antireflective coating layers consisted of 6 layers and were found to have a transmittance of 95.5% or greater in the visible light region. In the case of the designed blue-light blocking layers, the numbers of coating layers were 16, 24, 28, and 32 layers for 10%, 20%, 40%, and 60% blue-light blocking rates at the peak wavelength of 450 nm, respectively. The blue-light blocking rates, transmittances, and luminous transmittances were (4.9%, 8.8%, 17.2%, 25.7%), (95.8%, 94.6%, 92.7%, 90.7%), (99.5%. 98.9%. 98.5%, 98.0%), respectively. CIE chromaticity diagrams were (0.3371, 0.3395), (0.3400, 0.3450), (0.3479, 0.3578), and (0.3563, 0.3731) for the blue-light blocking rates of 10%, 20%, 40%, and 60% at the peak wavelength of 450 nm, respectively. It was found that the colors of these blocking lenses shifted from transparent to a light yellow.

Conclusion: As the number of coating layers increased, the blue-light blocking rates increased, the luminous transmittances decreased slightly, and the colors of the blocking lenses shifted from transparent to a light yellow.
